We sat down with MAC Senior Artist Konstantine Mironychev. From New York to Milan, he makes models look beautiful. So we asked him how to do really fabulous eye makeup for prom -- and how to master some of those more, uh, advanced application techniques. prom-spots.com: What can you do to make eyes look bigger?Konstantine: If anything, curl your lashes and wear mascara! It really makes a difference! I love MAC Zoom Lash. prom-spots.com: If eyes are set close together, can you create the illusion that they are set equally apart? Konstantine: Of course. Focus your makeup on the outer corners of the eye. It's great to work with mid-tone eye shadows (so, not black) and diffuse them with a brush like MAC's #219. You're trying to create the illusion of a longer eye on the outer corner, so I don't recommend using pronounced liner. prom-spots.com: How can we use lots of mascara but keep our lashes from getting clumpy? Konstantine: I use the very tip of the mascara wand to separate every lash while I'm applying. If you have a hard time doing that, use a product with a smaller wand -- MAC Dazzle Lash is perfect for that! prom-spots.com: How do you make dark circles go away? Konstantine: To better conceal the area around the eye, I use soft eye shadow brushes (like MAC's #224 and #217). Use them to apply concealer. They give you the ability to build coverage with a natural look and they won't leave you with an overload of the product. When applying, a stippling motion works best! prom-spots.com: How can you create smoky eyes without making it look like you can't color within the lines? Konstantine: The key is to keep the darkest color closest to your lashes. Use an ultra-dark eye kohl, like MAC's Smolder, on the inner rim of your eye to make it look finished. prom-spots.com: How do you keep eye shadow from gravitating toward the creases? Konstantine: Look for a creamy, textured product that can be used alone or as a base for eye shadows. I use MAC Paint Pots -- they're my salvation!
